Lucy Wisdom brought colour and passion to everything she did, above all to the Sumatran Orangutan Society (SOS), the charity she founded in 1997, and which became her life’s work. She fostered SOS’s growth from a one-woman campaign to a small but vital international agency, whose grassroots projects allow the few remaining wild orangutans the chance to survive in the forests of Sumatra.
Lucy sadly passed away on 19th December 2009, but her organisation, SOS, has continued tirelessly in its mission.
Lucy always championed education as the cornerstone for change. In tribute to Lucy, we have built a school next to the incredible Leuser Ecosystem, the last stronghold for Sumatran orangutans, and dedicated it to her memory.
