Help orangutans thrive in the wild

About a century ago there were around a quarter of a million orangutans in the wild. But their numbers have declined as rainforests have been replaced by farmlands and roads.

Now there are just 14,000 Sumatran orangutans and fewer than 800 Tapanuli orangutans.

They need the rainforests to thrive; fruit trees to feed from, and large areas of connected forest canopy so they can move safely, find mates and make a nest each night.

With your help, the Sumatran Orangutan Society can support the protection and restoration of over a million hectares of the orangutans’ forest homes.

Become an Orangutan Guardian: Give Monthly

£8 per month can help to train 20 women in a year to set up and manage tree nurseries to restore degraded areas of rainforest and secure the future for orangutans and their forest homes

£19 per month can help to plant 8 trees every month - almost 100 trees a year - to provide food and nesting places for orangutans.

£25 per month can help three forest-edge communities to design conservation actions plans to ensure long-term protection for orangutans
