Elephant Parade 2010 was the biggest public art exhibition ever to be staged in London, and SOS was delighted to be a conservation partner. Over 250 fibreglass life-size baby elephants were displayed across the city from 3rd May to 29th June, to raise funds for the conservation of Asian elephants. Orangutans and elephants face the same fate from the destruction of the Sumatran rainforest. The funds and awareness raised by this fantastic event will help us secure a safer future for both species within the Leuser Ecosystem, as well as countless other species of fauna and flora. Our elephant, named "Harapan", meaning "Hope" in the Indonesian language, was painted by Becky Sutherland, an incredibly talented artist and the creator of our orangutan activity book.
Our gorgeous elephant was auctioned to raise an astounding £21,250 for our conservation projects!
Check out this film of the creation of Harapan!
